For the new main building of the University of Bonn, Auer Weber developed a clearly structured educational facility that integrates diverse functions within a precisely organized architectural system. The design is conceived as an integral part of the existing campus and offers a distinctive, contemporary response to the demands of modern university architecture.

The building connects lecture halls, seminar rooms, workspaces, and communal areas into a well-thought-out spatial structure. The individual functions are arranged in such a way that both orientation and efficient circulation are ensured. Central circulation areas serve as communicative spaces that promote exchange and interaction, while clearly defined learning spaces enable focused work.

Particular emphasis is placed on the design of the interior spaces. The lecture hall is staged as a central venue for the exchange of knowledge, where its clear geometry, tiered seating, and precise lighting create a calm and focused atmosphere. At the same time, the work areas feature an open, flexible structure that accommodates diverse uses and supports modern forms of learning and work.

The material palette has been deliberately chosen to be understated and is complemented by carefully directed lighting. Light-colored surfaces, warm wooden elements, and clean detailing create a calm and sophisticated spatial atmosphere. This minimalist design underscores the building’s character as a place for concentration and exchange.

The architectural visualizations focus on depicting these spatial qualities. They show the interior spaces in use, convey scale and atmosphere, and make the architectural relationships comprehensible even during the competition process. The combination of functional clarity and atmospheric presentation creates a comprehensive picture of the future university building.

The project exemplifies contemporary university architecture that combines functional requirements with spatial quality and further develops the campus as a vibrant place of learning and interaction.
