Sachsenhausen Memorial Visitor Center
Hascher Jehle Associates, LLC
For the new construction of a visitor information center and seminar building at the Sachsenhausen Memorial, Hascher Jehle Architektur developed a low-key structure that blends sensitively into the historical context. The design is intended to complement the existing complex and establishes a clear spatial structure for information, orientation, and education.
The building is conceived as a single-story, elongated structure that fits precisely into the landscape. Its minimalist design language and deliberate choice of materials underscore the respectful treatment of the site. At the same time, the clear organization of the spaces creates a logical sequence of functions and aids visitor orientation.
The interior spaces are open and clearly laid out. The reception, exhibition, and seminar areas flow seamlessly into one another, allowing for flexible use. Generous openings connect the interior and exterior spaces and establish connections to the surrounding landscape.
The visualizations focus on the building’s spatial impact within the context of the memorial site as well as on the atmosphere of the interior spaces. They convey the design’s restraint and precision and allow one to experience the architectural character of a place that combines information, remembrance, and education.
