HOME M Mannheim
MVRDV
The HOME M residential high-rise in Mannheim’s Franklin district is a striking element in the transformation of a former barracks site. MVRDV’s design makes a bold urban statement and establishes a distinctive architectural identity that stands out clearly in the cityscape.
The building is structured by generous cutouts and openings that create visual connections while simultaneously defining communal spaces within the building. These spatial openings contribute to the building’s permeability and create a nuanced perception of the high-rise from various perspectives.
The façade design is characterized by the multitude of balconies, which offer residents individual outdoor spaces while simultaneously enhancing the building’s sculptural impact. The combination of a clear structure and a dynamic façade composition creates a compelling interplay between order and diversity.
The visualizations show the building in its urban context as well as in its spatial dynamics. They illustrate the scale of the high-rise and its relationship to public space, particularly in the area of access and the adjacent open spaces. By depicting usage and everyday situations, the architectural concept becomes tangible and its impact comprehensible.
